Wow! This looks amazing. I have a celebration meal with family this weekend and have to produce pud. This could be the one. Thanks also for the German Deli link. Will start ordering in earnest.

I made it at the weekend to take over to some friends, turned out well and rose more then it ever has in the past. Took about ten mins in the oven longer then usual though. When it comes to baking I find I always have to tweak something, I'm just never sure what that something is until after the fact! In this case it might depend on the size of your egg. I use large and that can make a difference.

Oh yes...I love leeks. Nice, simple yet incredibly tasty. One quick Q - When cooking in the butter do you pop a pan lid on?

I've Sautéed leeks in the past as a base for other dishes and have always tried to get that jammy, sticky consistency...always with the lid on to keep the moisture in. What are your views here?

Got to admit I'm impressed to see anyone tackle this. It's the kind of good, old-fashioned English fare that's pretty much lost on cooks of my generation, me included! I'll be round at yours for mince pies and brandy at my earliest convenience!

Update - Smug and satisfied after making my first batch of mince pies of the season with my son for neighbours. Great texture and slight boozy aftertaste that had everyone going back for seconds.

Point taken on the baking...next post will be suitably meal-like! Perhaps that nice juicy stew you mention.
